Biography

Sudan Gyawaly is an area integrated pest management (IPM) advisor and applied entomologist with several years of experience in agricultural pest management. Sudan joined UCCE as an Associate Specialist in June 2020 and as an IPM advisor in 2022. Prior to joining UCCE, Sudan has worked as a post-doctoral research associate at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Greensboro, NC. As a post-doctoral research associate, his research was focused on developing pest management practices for pests of fruits and vegetables in organic systems.

Sudan received his MS degree in entomology from West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV and PhD degree from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA. His graduate studies involved research on developing mass rearing techniques for insects including insect natural enemy and developing pest management techniques for white grubs, the larvae of scarab beetles, in turfgrass systems. Sudan enjoys working with growers and all his work, as a graduate student and as a post-doctoral researcher, has involved working closely with growers.
