Five a Day Power Play!
We show students fun and easy ways for children to eat fruit and vegetables at breakfast and in their snacks. We do so by introducing children to new fruits and vegetables through a range of activities such as taste testing and culinary exercises. We encourage them to eat more of what they already know they like and to try new one's they haven't yet tried rather than try convincing students to eat what they don't already like.
We use hands-on learning activities that explore taste, texture, and color when showing students how these foods provide important vitamins, calcium and iron for growth of functions of the body.
California Content Standards
Our Five a Day Power Play! activities also develop greater skills in math, reading, public speaking, and writing. Our curriculum is bilingual and aligns with California Content Standards and the California Department of Education's nutrition benchmarks. These can be found in a word document seen below. A resource kit is available to 4th and 5th grade teachers, as well as to various community organizations, such as after-school programs and summer camps. Our resource kit includes easy, nutritional recipes that kids will love! Try Oprah's recipe by clicking on the link below.
